Snow Sports School

The Cardrona Snow Sports School provides training for kids through to advanced professional skiers and riders as well as private, group, telemark and adaptive lessons for first time, beginner and intermediate skiers.

Made up of the Ski and Snowboard School, High Performance Centre and the instruction part of the Kids Centres it is New Zealand's largest and most successful snow sports training centre.

Group Lessons (Skiing & Snowboarding)

Group Lessons allow you to gain confidence in a safe environment while having a fun social time. Adult Group lessons depart from the Ski and Snowboard School meeting area at 10.35am and 2pm.  All lessons are of 2 hours duration.

Notes:  Group lesson numbers are usually 8 people per instructor or less.  Afternoon lessons are normally smaller and faster moving than the morning.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are a fast way to build confidence with personal, individual specific goals between you and your instructor.

Booking ahead is recommended.  Reservations can be made by calling the mountain or contacting us in either our Queenstown or Wanaka office.  If requesting a specific instructor please contact us.  Adults and child rates are the same, and can cater for children of any age.  One hour periods will only be reserved ahead at 9 and 9.30am or 12.30 and 1pm.

Junior Group Lessons

Kids are part of the Cardrona family. We love to teach them to ski and board. Our team is dedicated to your children's needs and will encourage and coach them to their full potential. The varied and wide-open terrain, the user friendly lifts and the exciting, colourful atmosphere means Cardrona is purpose built for children and families. 

Children's meeting signs are colour-coded to help make class groupings easy.  Ski group lessons are available for children aged 5 yrs and over, and snowboard group lessons are available for ages 8 yrs and over.  Private lessons are available for children of any age.  The children's lessons start 5 minutes earlier in the morning so they can be 'sorted' prior to your lesson starting.  Group lessons depart from the Ski and Snowboard School meeting area at 10.30am and 2pm.  Lessons all finish at the same time at the same place.

Telemark at Cardrona

Cardrona is a great place to learn to telemark. Although we don't rent Telemark gear directly we have can direct you to Mainly Tramping in Wanaka (opposite New World). In the case of Mainly Tramping we offer a number of packages that include lift passes, lessons and rental to help get you on the slopes experiencing telemarking.

Women’s Ski Camp

Back by popular demand, for women skiers wanting to be challenged, improve their skills and have a lot of fun. This program runs from Tuesday to Thursday from 9.30 – 4pm with the same instructor and the same group. You will all have an individual training plan and be coached over the 3 days to really develop your skills and learn new things. There will be video analysis and plenty of individual feedback. On top of this it is social and tones of fun – an opportunity to make new skiing friends.

Advanced Workshops

For advanced skiers wanting to be challenged, improve their skills and have a lot of fun. This program runs from Monday to Thursday from 10.30am – 12.30pm and 2pm – 4pm with the same instructor and the same group. The instructor will show you all over Cardrona including all the great secrets that we usually keep to ourselves. You will all have an individual training plan and be coached over the 4 days to really develop your skills and learn new things.
