Lift, Lesson and Rental Packages 2008

There are two packages available, both of which include lift tickets, lesson & rental equipment.

The difference is a First-timer package is limited by lift pass on the first-day, which restricts the skiers to the learner’s area.  The objective here is to supply everything needed to build a foundation for progress.

An Achievement package provides unlimited access to the entire mountain and suits a relative novice right through to an experienced but infrequent skier or boarder.  The objectives here are to supply all the necessary elements in order to accelerate the learning curve.

Packages - Ski or Board 2008
      First Timer Achievement
1 Day 1 Lesson Adult $80 $135
  1 Lesson Child $65 $85
  2 Lesson Adult $95 n/a
  2 Lesson Child $80 n/a
2 Day 1 lesson Adult $225 $260
  1 lesson Child $160 $160
3 Day 1 lesson Adult $340 $375
  1 lesson Child $220 $230

Which package?

A first timer package includes a learner area pass on day one. This accesses the Learners slope and its Platter and Magic Learner lifts and therefore suitable to those who have skied one day or less. The terrain step up to the MacDougalls chairlift is small as this slope is wide and gentle.  If you have skied or boarded for more than one day then access to the entire mountain (ie. an Achievement Package) is the best choice for most people from day one.

Have you ever skied or boarded before?

No - then the First-time package is the one for you, please click here.

Yes - How much have you skied or boarded before?

One Day - then the First-timer package is a possibility if you are still at the early stages of building confidence on the slopes click here.

More Than One Day - the Achievement package is the one for you as you’ll want to explore the whole mountain not just the beginner trails click here.

More on First-timer versus Achievement package selection.

The ideal first-time skier or boarder is one who has never skied before. If you have skied once before, was it one week or one day?

Did you:

Enjoy it? – if so you should take an Achievement package click here.

Or Hate it? – you should try First Timers package to get yourself on the right track click here.

Skiing is like riding a bike.  You do remember quickly the movements even if it was once many years ago.

Bear in mind that if you can “stop and change direction” then you are far more advanced than someone who has never skied or boarded before.  Even though that is only one days progress - at Cardrona - that is enough to get on up the chairlifts and cruise down from the top of the mountain.

Note you can upgrade your First-time Learner area pass to an all mountain lift pass after 12.30pm for a fee. Remember First timers package only includes a lift pass for the Learners slopes including MacDougalls Chairlift.

First Timer Package

Cardrona is a great place to learn.  We have 3 of the easiest lifts possible to ride - Magic Learner Lifts (surface conveyor belts in the snow). We have gentle and progressive terrain and MacDougall’s Quad chair lift takes you to the top of the widest and most scenic learner runs in the Southern Lakes.

First-timer 1 Day package

For skiers and snowboarders who want to give it a try. If you just want a taste of skiing or snowboarding then a 1 lesson 1 day package is for you. If you’d like to “learn to turn” then you really need the 2 lesson package.

Packages includes ski rental or Easi-slide snowboard equipment including wrist guards, a learner area pass and one or two lessons with a professional.  Clothing is not included.  The lesson includes you in a group of other first timers and teaches you how to master sliding, stopping and turning safely and effectively on our gentle slopes.  The aim of the afternoon lesson is to progress you to the MacDougall’s Quad chair, taking you to the top of the mountain with an easy run back to base.

You choose a morning lesson starting at 10.30am or 11.30am.  Afternoon lessons all go at 2pm.  First time packages come with Cardrona’s “learn to turn” guarantee.

First-timer multi-day package

Perfect for those committed to learning to ski or snowboard rather than just giving it a try.  Day one includes a two-lesson first timer pack as above. The following days include an all-mountain chairlift pass, ski/snowboard rental and one group lesson per day at either 10:30am or 2pm.

Note. All First-time packs are sold for consecutive days.  A standard refund applies in the case of weather closing the mountain.

Hints & Ideas

  • First time lesson groups normally have around 8 people in the group.  The maximum for children’s groups is less than this depending upon age.  At extremely busy times these limits may be exceeded temporarily.
  • First time snowboarders should always wear wrist guards to prevent a broken wrist ruining your holiday.
  • Children’s morning lessons depart at 10.30am and Adults at 10:35am.  This makes it much easier to organise the entire family.  All lessons finish at the same time in the same place.
  • Try and get to the mountain as much as an hour prior to lesson starts on your first day.  It is a new experience and time for a break after ticketing and rental is always a bonus.
  • Changing rooms and lockers (including overnight storage for consecutive hire) are available on the mountain.
  • Consecutive days mean not having to relearn or backtrack.

Achievement Package

Achievement packages are suitable for a wide range of people.  From those whose previous skiing experience just pushes them past First-timer packages, through to advanced skiers looking for lots of miles, up to date equipment and a daily tip from a professional instructor.

A One-day Achievement Pack

Featuring a two-hour lesson, ski/snowboard rental equipment and an all mountain lift pass.  It does not include clothing.

The better you are the more you will enjoy the slopes this holiday.  Your lift pass accesses the entire mountain, great gear is included and you catch up with one of the best instructors in a social and team environment to work on your technique.  It’s a great way to start for those lacking confidence after a break from the slopes.

Multi-day Achievement Packs

The rust will be long gone when you pick up a multi-day Achievement Package.  Everything you need is included: all mountain lift pass, great gear for sliding and each day catch up with one of the best instructors in a social and team environment for a 2 hr lesson.  You will improve fastest with the tips and encouragement of a professional instructor.  Clothing is not included.
