Terrain Park, Half Pipes and Gravity X

Cardrona is an incredible playground for freestyle skiers and boarders.  Slope facilities include three terrain parks with a wide range of rails and jumps, up to 4 halfpipes and a Gravity Cross course. Many of New Zealand’s best freestyle skiers and snowboarders, and increasingly off-season northern hemisphere athletes, base themselves at Cardrona. For example Julianne Bray and Jossi Wells are based at Cardrona.

Terrain Parks

The Heavy Metal trail runs the length of the Whitestar Express on a purpose built terraced course. This trail is home to the larger rails and features, normally exceeding 8m in size.

The Playzone trail runs alongside the upper Heavy Metal trail utilising smaller features.

Half Pipe Park

The park consists of four pipes - the International, Rookie, Monster and the Johnny. The last two are built to the enlarged Superpipe dimensions, while the Rookie and International are shallower but still use the same transition for easy introduction and smooth riding. Usually two pipes are in operation on any given day - one used exclusively by the High Performance Centre until mid-September, and the other open for public use.

Gravity Cross

An 800m sculptured track for skiers and boarders made up of banked corners, jumps and rollers.
